I received my BA in French, cum laude, from the University of Oregon in 1993. From there I went to France, where I lived and taught English at the Lycée Louis Feuillade in Lunel. Upon returning stateside, I undertook graduate studies again at the University of Oregon, receiving a Masters degree in French in 1996, followed by a Phd in Romance Languages (Italian was my second Romance Language) in 2000. I taught as an adjunct professor of French for one academic year and was then hired into my current position at the University of Alabama, where I earned tenure in 2008. I taught all classes online in 2020 and into 2021; I have taught hybrid remote as well. I am professionally fluent in French. I am a heritage speaker of German. I have formal training in Italian and Spanish with reading knowledge of both. I am a published author of academic articles and book chapters mostly on 19th century French literature.
I am also well-acquainted with nationally competitive scholarships and have run workshops on how to write personal statements, research and grant proposals, and graduate school applications. I have served for several years as campus representative for a variety of nationally competitive awards (Boren, Marshall, Truman, Goldwater, Churchill) and became Director of the Office of External Scholarships and Fellowships at UA in 2021. Any tutoring focused on SLA (French), English Language Acquisition (ELA), and/or writing would be a good fit for my skills set.
