My teaching and coaching philosophy stems from the beautiful admixture of holistic methods that come together in the strange word, heutagogy. Notwithstanding heutagogy’s funky name, to my mind, the idea behind moniker is straightforward: heutagogy is creating an educational environment to nurture life-long learning strategies for all learners.

I work with students from around the world and have 15 years of experience. My methods are simple: ask questions to guide the student to their own understanding. We then tie the academic to the 'real' to help the student 'earn' their understanding thereby solidifying a concept or topic.
Last year alone, functioning in the role of Academic tutor, I helped a student to receive a quarter of a million dollars toward their college costs.

Departing from the students' interests we delve into the fundamentals of Biology. Depending on the student's level, we can cover things from plant biology, dissection, mitosis or even simple genetics. I use the AP Biology text so that the students work with topics that I break down to help them understand and then integrate.

My career coaching approach begins with questions. My only product is my student/client's success. I offer mock-interviews which contain questions gleaned from previous interviews (company specific). My proprietary approach has been developed using the 7 Principles of Business and the guiding principles of the United Nations. Lastly, I have helped clients 'land' their perfect jobs at a few well known international companies such as Deloitte, KP&G, Bain and Co, EY and BlackRock.

Departing from the students' interests we delve into the fundamentals of Chemistry--the Periodic Table, the elements, and the structure of an atom. We take common household items such--depending on the student's level--such as salt and we 'make' the compound using the Periodic Table and how each element works. I use the AP Chemistry book and hands on materials so that the students work with the 'elements' to help them gain a deeper understanding of the subject.

My teaching philosophy stems from my experience in Instructional Design whereby I employ Bloom’s taxonomy to create clear course objectives with measurable outcomes. I organize my courses using the “flipped classroom” approach to engage with my students both in and outside of the classroom. For example, I provide reading and listening materials that correpsond to a visual component. Then during the class meeting time, we use the materials to encourage interactions in the target language.

My teaching philosophy emerges from the Bloom’s taxonomy to create a course with measurable outcomes. The students engage with the lanuage both in and outside of the classroom. For example, when I teach French Culture and Civilization, the students create their own blogs to record their learning journey. The blogs extend the students’ opportunities beyond the classroom to hone their writing skills while also giving them a place to begin drafting short compositions.

My methods are based on approaches employed at 'the big 5' (Deloitte, KP&G, Bain and Co and EY) and I design a class for my client that is unique to their needs. The courses are tailored to play to the student/client's success while shoring up areas for improvement. My methods are based on principles gleaned from the top leadership coaches and mentors worldwide.

My teaching philosophy emerges from the Bloom’s taxonomy to create a course with measurable outcomes. The students engage with the authentic materials which have been selected based on the student's needs. We cover things such as critical reading skills, how to 'pick apart' a piece of reading, smart test-taking skills and the skills needed to score above a 30 each time you sit the exam.
I am a 360° Instructional Designer. What does this mean for you? When you enter the virtual classroom with Dr. J, you are immersed in multifarious teaching methods which are tailored to play to your strengths. Working from a position strength helps you to gain a better understanding of the materials. Moreover, my value-added proposition to you or your student goes beyond methods and vision and leaps into action through meaningful exchanges. My aim is to encourage even the most recalcitrant learners to actualize their own learning style. I meet you, the student, where you are, and we embark on a learning journey together. All education can be transformative. Notwithstanding, I maintain learning integrity (setting the bar) and provide meaningful and timely feedback (helping you reach your goals). I am also a certified builder of Quality Matters online courses and have authored multi-level curricula which have earned accreditation by Cognia, NCAA and WASC.
