My piano teaching method is centered around developing a strong sense of rhythm and harmony. I believe that a solid foundation in rhythm is essential for any pianist, as it helps to create a strong sense of groove and timing. I also place a special emphasis on harmony, as it is the backbone of most music, specially if played with piano.
My teaching method pays special attention to poly-rhythm; the great challenge of the piano. All the rest comes second. No rhythm, no music. The best way to integrate rhythm is to play simple grooves with the left hand, while adding things with the right hand without loosing the groove. This is my main exercise, while learning all the rest of the music world in parallel: harmony, scales, improv methods, etc.
In addition, I understand the importance of developing the left hand, which is often neglected in traditional piano methods. By focusing on the left hand, students can develop the different techniques often used to play, as well as learning how to thing of the piano as an orchestra.
Overall, my teaching method is designed to help students become well-rounded pianists with a deep understanding of rhythm and harmony, as well as the technical skills necessary to bring their musical ideas to life.
