One important human right is the right to education. In the United States there are differences in educational attainment and quality across all 50 states. Through the use of 20 different metrics, with 100 being the "most educated," WalletHub compared these two dimensions.

10. Washington

In terms of educational attainment, Washington comes in ninth. The percentage of adults with an associate degree or college experience is third highest in Washington. With a large job market that features employers like Microsoft and Amazon, Washington has a lot to offer STEM majors.

9. Minnesota

The ninth most educated state is Minnesota. With 93.0% of its population holding a high school diploma, Minnesota is ranked eighth for Educational Attainment. The Mayo Clinic, one of the state's largest employers, as well as Fortune 500 companies like 3M, General Mills, and Target are all based in Minnesota.

8. New Hampshire

New Hampshire has the second-highest percentage of residents holding a high school diploma. It ranks sixth in the nation for educational attainment and is the eighth most educated state overall. The high-tech sector in New Hampshire is among the best in the nation. New Hampshire consistently has one of the lowest unemployement rates.

7. New Jersey 

For educational attainment and educational quality, New Jersey comes in at tenth and fourth, respectively. New Jersey has the fourth-highest proportion of adults with a bachelor's degree. 6. Virginia 

Virginia ranks seventh for educational attainment and eighth for educational quality. With 16.1%, Virginia has the fourth-highest percentage of people in the nation with graduate or professional degrees. The University of Virginia, James Madison University, the College of William & Mary, and Virginia Tech are a few of Virginia's top universities.

5. Colorado 

Colorado has the highest proportion of adults with associate's degrees or college experience and the second-highest of adults with bachelor's degrees. Sadly, Colorado is ranked 35th overall for Quality of Education and has the third-lowest average university quality.

4. Vermont 

Vermont is ranked seventh for educational quality and fifth for educational attainment. It has the sixth-highest rate of people with a high school diploma (92.7%) and the seventh-highest rate of people with a bachelor's (38.00%). The University of Vermont is the largest institution of higher learning in the state, and its medical center is the largest employer there.

3. Connecticut 

Connecticut is the third-most U.S. educated state. It is ranked fifth for educational quality and fourth for educational attainment. Connecticut has the fifth-highest percentage of residents with bachelor's, and the third-highest percentage of residents with graduate or professional degrees. The bioscience, financial services, insurance, and digital media sectors are among the most well-liked in Connecticut.

2. Maryland 

Maryland ranks second in the nation for educational attainment. The second-highest percentage of residents in the nation with graduate or professional degrees are found in Maryland. Additionally, Maryland is ranked first for educational quality. Its residents can obtain the high-paying jobs available in Washington, D.C. thanks to the state's high education levels.
